Senior Services Café campaign with extra incentives for new attendees
Davidson County, NC –Beginning in July, The Davidson County Department of Senior Services initiated a campaign to increase attendance at the five Senior Cafés across the county. New registrants who attend a minimum number of days within the first month will be eligible to receive a $70 Meat Sampler Box voucher that can be redeemed at either Conrad and Hinkle in Lexington or Shuler Meats in Thomasville.
“We know what a difference this program can make in the lives of those who participate,” says Cameron Hartwell, Congregate Nutrition Program Manager. “I have seen isolated and lonely folks join and after a while, their outlook on life be completely turned around. From being too timid to join in conversations to leading classes on topics they have expertise in (like crafts or exercise) in a matter of months. The Cafés are for everyone, no matter what the need is. Whether it is to increase nutrition, find friends to socialize with or try new activities, there is a seat for anyone interested.”
The Senior Café program (also known as Congregate Nutrition) serves a catered lunch to adults age 60 and older and features a variety of additional “pre-lunch” programming including exercise, educational seminars, entertainment, arts and crafts activities and much more. There are also volunteer opportunities for those who would like to give back as well as attend.
Currently, Senior Services has five Senior Café locations; Lexington, Thomasville, Denton, Southmont and Welcome.
Besides the incentive vouchers, the initiative will also feature billboards and posters placed along major roadways in the county and targeted focus groups to determine what would make the program more appealing and/or visible to eligible adults in the communities served.
Senior Services, a division of Davidson County Government, was established in 1975. The organization’s mission is to offer an array of programs and services to older adults regarding their well-being, independence, involvement in their community and the ability for them to remain in their own home.
