Lexington Fire Department Responds to Fire on Drexel Circle

LEXINGTON, NC – Around 1:45 pm on Sunday, May 29th, the Lexington Fire  Department responded to a reported trash can on fire in a duplex apartment.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke showing from apartment 100. Neighbors  advised firefighters that all occupants were out of the apartment, including one  adult and four children.

Crews made entry into the home and successfully confirmed that all occupants  were out of the residence and could prevent fire spread to the adjoining apartment,  which contained six residents. The adjacent apartment sustained minor smoke  damage.

Firefighters turned the scene over to the Lexington Fire investigative staff to assist  in determining the cause and origin.

Both units were deemed unsafe to occupy due to heavy fire damage in the primary  apartment and power being cut off for safety measures in the adjoining apartment.

Eleven occupants were displaced between the two units, and they were assisted by  Red Cross and Lexington Housing Authority staff.
