Hospice Launches 40th Anniversary Celebration with Pop-Up Event

(Davidson County, NC) – Hospice of Davidson County is celebrating its 40th Service Year Anniversary throughout 2025 with pop-up events, special gatherings, and other celebrations.

Hospice of Davidson County (HODC) will hold its inaugural pop-up event Friday, January 17th at The Smoke & Oak premium bourbon and cigar lounge, 127 West Center Street, Lexington. HODC team members will be present after 5pm to celebrate with our community, as well as answer any hospice-related questions. The Smoke & Oak’s specialty cocktail for January is a toasted marshmallow old fashioned and purchase benefits HODC.

“In celebration of our 40th service year anniversary, we are hosting pop-up events throughout the year. We want to bring visibility to local businesses that support our work, to speak more informally with individuals who may have misconceptions about the benefits of hospice care, and most importantly, find new ways to foster partnerships that enhance caring for our community,” explained Laura Owen, Chief Executive Officer. “We are a local agency with a national reputation, but we never lose sight of the fact that our foundation was built by our local community, and our future success relies on continued partnership.”

Hospice of Davidson County (HODC) first served patients in 1985. Founded by a small group of committed, caring volunteers, HODC was the first local Hospice in Davidson County. That foundational mindset of service continues to guide HODC 40 years later as they provide expert, compassionate, and professional care to hundreds of patients and their loved ones.

“Most people have a general idea of what Hospice offers but do not become intimately familiar with Hospice until a loved one is in need,” explained Owen. “The stigma is that Hospice care is for the final days of someone’s life. But the truth is that the earlier Hospice care is accessed, the more benefits the patient and their loved ones receive. Hospice care gives choices, dignity, and support while offering relief from physical, mental, and emotional pain.”

HODC has multiple events and announcements planned in addition to their traditional annual fundraisers. Next on the calendar is the inaugural Signature Spirits Soiree. This limited ticket event will be February 8th at Adaumont Farm. Tickets include a surf and turf dinner, bourbon tasting flight, desserts, and limited bar. There will be a raffle for prestigious ‘spirited’ gifts, as well as cigars and additional premium bourbon for purchase. Individuals are encouraged to reserve their tickets today for this one-of-a-kind, spirited fundraiser.
