Principal Jihan Harvey named LCS Princpal of the Year
Dr. Nakia Hardy, Superintendent and Dr. Bruce Carroll, HR Director, surprised Principal Jihan Harvey at Southwest Elementary Global Academy (SWEGA) with balloons and flowers to celebrate her remarkable achievement as Lexington City Schools’ Principal of the Year.
As a dedicated leader within our school community, Principal Harvey embodies innovation and a commitment to fostering an environment where students and staff can “Thrive in the Hive.” Her leadership creates a vibrant and supportive atmosphere, empowering everyone to reach their full potential.
Principal Harvey has served as the principal at both Pickett Elementary, where she contributed to the success of the thriving Spanish Immersion program, and now at Southwest Elementary Global Academy. At SWEGA, she has been instrumental in cultivating a culture of excellence focused on high-quality instruction and student engagement. Her dedication to parental and community involvement has strengthened the school as a hub of support for families, ensuring that each student receives the encouragement needed to succeed. Under her guidance, SWEGA has launched innovative programs, including a STEAM-focused curriculum that has significantly boosted student participation.

With a Master’s degree in Executive Leadership and currently pursuing her EdD, focused on the impact of a Freshman Academy on student discipline, retention, and academic success, Ms. Harvey is dedicated to lifelong learning and professional growth. She actively participates in professional development that enhances her leadership skills and instructional practices, benefiting students and staff alike.
