Groups partner for Earth Day Cleanup in Uptown Lexington
Organizers nationally and locally are calling for a partnership with our planet this Earth Day. Earth Day 2022 will be observed on April 22nd with a cleanup in Uptown Lexington from 4pm to 6pm on The Square.
Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement since 1970.
“We are working to make community involvement cool in Lexington and the surrounding community for all ages,” wrote Jacob Gordan, executive director of Uptown Lexington. “Please invite staff, students, community leaders, business owners, and others….We are hoping to get the entire community involved.”
Items for this cleanup will be provided by Keep Davidson County Beautiful. Mandy Kiser says the volunteer group has led more than 10 cleanups across the county. The organization will have a volunteer tent on Main Street in Lexington during the cleanup.
Kiser welcomes volunteers to join the ongoing endeavor. She wrote: “Bringing the community together, cleaning up our streets, downtown area and the environment as a whole. Educating our citizens to prevent future litter issues…. Come out to support this cause and enjoy our downtown and depot district after!.
