Foundation Forward presented Davidson County Commissioners with a Certificate of Responsibility for “Charters of Freedom” located in The Square of Uptown Lexington on Thursday, October 27th at 11:00 am. Commissioners were joined by city dignitaries, veterans, elected officials, Thomasville High School ROTC and The Marching Yellow Jackets.

According to founders Vance and Mary Jo Patterson during a trip to Washington, DC, they visited the National Archives and experienced the United States' founding documents for the very first time. Patterson credits the trip for inspiring the nonprofit to make gifts to local communities, “not everyone can afford to go to DC.”

Foundation Forward is described as an educational non-profit that installs life-size replicas of the United States’ Charters of Freedom: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights in communities across America. Foundation Forward raises funds from the sale of engraved pavers positioned in front of the documents on the walkway. After construction is finished for each setting, a dedication ceremony is set up to officially hand over the Charters of Freedom to the community.

The foundation also presented a replica of The 13th Amendment to abolish slavery that Patterson called “important” to travel to schools and other institutions.
