Polical Opinion: From the Desk of Senator Steve

Polical Opinion: From the Desk of Senator Steve

Dear Friends,

Another busy week in the legislature complete, let's get into this week's highlights!

Davidson- Davie Community College is home to the best and largest healthcare apprenticeship program in North Carolina. We are proud to have such an amazing program serving our community.

A House Joint Resolution has been filed and supported by the Convention of States that would limit the power of the government. This resolution will be returning next session, pressing legislators to take a position on the issue.

Sunday voting has been a topic of conversation around the upcoming election in November. Davidson County Board of Elections has voted to have Sunday polls this year. After hearing from many of you, I have voiced my (& your) opposition to this to DC-BOE as well as the NC-SBOE. I ask them to consider not only the moral ethics of this, but also the impact working 13 days straight would have on them. We all need a day of rest, and we are not getting any younger! I was taken back that this was even up for discussion. I would ask that if you agree that do the same, let your voice be heard.

Several new laws went into effect this week, as of August 1st. These laws were passed in the last session and recently signed by Governor Cooper.

Two men of Davidson County were arrested for the attack of a journalist on Thursday afternoon. Thank you to our local law enforcement for keeping our community safe.

Conflict has ensued surrounding the plan to impose a 20-week ban on abortions in North Carolina. Senate and House leaders have made statements pushing for the ban as it has been neglected by other state officials.

Davidson County is always proud of it's citizens accomplishments, and this week we want to recognize Mr. Elijah Mclean Jr. on his many years as a basketball referee in our community. Thank you for your many years of service!

If you have concerns, or questions, you can reply to this newsletter, email, or call my office at (919) 733-5743.

I also take time each day to personally call citizens in our district to listen to their concerns. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you!
