Talented Author Robert Gwaltney will be participating in a meet-and-greet, book signings and an on stage panel today. It’s all free and open to the public.
Robert Gwaltney hails from Cairo, Georgia. He has an impressive reputation and award-winning debut novel, The Cicada Tree, under his belt. Gwaltney’s debut novel is a mysteriously enchanting and atmospheric book that enamors the reader with rich story-telling, complex and intriguing characters and a hauntingly beautiful setting.
Set in the summer of 1956, the story follows Analeise Newell, a jaded but brilliant 11-year-old piano prodigy. The story follows her as she is bewitched and drawn further and further into the web of the Mayfield family.
The Mayfield is a wealthy family that is all supernaturally beautiful, possessing what is known as the “Mayfield Shine.” As Anaelise is drawn further and further into her obsessive fascination with the family, she endures a battle of wits, manipulation and mind games, setting off life-altering events with cataclysmic consequences.
The Cicada Tree is the pinnacle of Southern Gothic literature, depicting a richly complex and compelling story.
Gwaltney is very excited about the Lexington Book Festival, saying “It seems like a wonderful experience and opportunity to interact with the author and reader community.”
With writing being a largely solitary journey, Gwaltney looks forward to meeting readers, citing community interaction as one of the most rewarding parts of writing and being a novelist. Gwaltney has already begun to feel the hospitality and sense of community from the City of Lexington through the event-organizing process.
If you’re not a reader generally, Gwaltney’s writings are a good place to start.
Gwaltney, with his experiences growing up in the South being the basis for what he writes and what he explores thematically, states that he “Would not have the literary voice he does now without his upbringing.”
Meet Robert Gwaltney and all of the other fabulous authors today.
I look forward to seeing you at the Lexington Book Festival, remember to bring everyone that you know.
