FREE: Black Butterfly Network to host iconic film series starting with The Wiz

Ease on down the road to the Black Butterfly Network of Lexington's inaugural “Summer Classic Film Series.” The group plans to host iconic movies presented throughout the series with The Wiz and Mahogany.

The first showing of The Wiz will be held at Bull City Ciderworks located in the Depot District at 299 S. Railroad St, Lexington, on Saturday, July 23 and Saturday, August 20.

An array of food and craft vendors will be available as gates open at 6 p.m. Movies will begin at sunset with admission to attend and is free for all.

Attendees are invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs to experience movies under the stars. No outside food or coolers are permitted.

“The Black Butterfly Network Film Festival is honored to be partnering with Hospice of Davidson County and Bull City Ciderworks to launch a free screening of The Wiz,” said Tina Royal, a board member for Hospice and director of Anything for Our Youth Group. “We’re excited to help bring a spotlight to and engage audiences with iconic films and stories they are bringing to the big screen.”

Black Butterfly Network artists and entrepreneurs will be on-site before the event. Food vendors will provide an array of culinary options.

“The idea of a film festival has been swimming in my head for a long time,” Clarence Hargrave, CEO of Event Horizons, said it is important regarding his hometown. “You can call this a legacy project.”

“We’re always honored to help with local festivities and promote unity in Davidson County,” added Antionette Kerr of Local. “Honoring the intersection of art, culture and history will always be a priority.”
