Names and ages: Otis, 70, and Vanessa Williams, 68

  1. How long have you been married? Date of marriage? 48 years; September 15, 1973

  2. Family - 3 children - Vince, Venice, and Vernard

    - 3 grandchildren - Carl, Kerringtyn and Elle

  3. How did you two meet? What were your first impressions?

    - Otis and Vanessa's mothers worked together at Lexington Memorial Hospital. They got to know each other when Otis took Beulah home after work.
    Otis - I thought Vanessa was "good looking".
    Vanessa - Moma thought he was a hard worker and I agreed to go out with him when he asked.

  4. What are some of your favorite things about each other?
    - Both stated they communicate well, enjoy each other's company, and have similar interest, such as watching Hallmark Channel movies and sports.

    Vanessa - Otis is a man of God, compassionate, understanding, a hard worker, and a great father and grandfather.

    Otis - Vanessa cares about people and is a great mother, caregiver and wife.

  5. What challenges have you experienced in your relationship? How have you handled them?

    - Each has experienced health issues and have cared for aging parents.
    - They managed these challenging experiences through patience and faith.

  6. What have you learned from these challenges?

    - We have to be patient and have faith.

  7. What has been the best thing about being married to your partner?

    - Our children. We are proud of our children. It was a struggle at times, but with the help of the Lord, we made it. We were able to help our children get an education.

  8. What would you say have been the keys to sustaining your decades long marriage?

    - Prayer, communication, and patience.

  9. Anything else you'd like to share?

    - Get vaccinated, wear your mask, and be safe!
