Candidate filing resumes Thursday
On Thursday, February 24, beginning at 8a.m. numerous citizens across Davidson County will finally get to follow through with an action some have been attempting since last year: file to run for a local office. In December, filing began but was halted by the North Carolina Supreme Court as lawsuits challenging the validity of districts made their way through the courts system.
In January, the Superior Court of Wake County determined candidate filing could resume on Thursday, February 24 at 8a.m. and conclude on Friday, March 4 at 12p.m. In Davidson County, candidates filing for county offices, the Lexington City Schools Board of Education, Lexington City Mayor, and Lexington City Council are required to do so between those dates and times.
The primary and delayed Lexington City election will be held on Tuesday, May 17. On November 8, the election will determine the winners of the county offices and Davidson County Schools Board of Education.
Offices up for election in Lexington include: Mayor; City Council seats in Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4; and Lexington City Schools Board of Education seats in Wards 4, 5, 6 and the at-large.
Offices up for election in Davidson County include: seats on the Board of Commissioners, District Attorney, Clerk of Superior Court, Register of Deeds and Sheriff.
There are six district and one superior court judges seats up for election.
Filing for Soil and Water and Davidson County Schools Board of Education begins June 13, 2022 at noon and ends July 1, 2022 at noon.
