The rain held off for the NAACP’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day parade on Main Street, Lexington Monday.
Cold temperatures meant attendees and participants were bundled up, and some riding in the backs of truck even tucked themselves under blankets.
But locals came out to support the event, and to honor the legacy of King, who gave his life for the civil rights movement he believed in.
Several high school bands kept the tempo up during the parade route from where West Hemstead Street joins North Main Street all the way down to West 8th Avenue and South Main Street. Participants waved, tossed candy and distributed information about their organizations, including Davidson Local staff.
