Commissioners approve zoning request despite concerns

Commissioners approve zoning request despite concerns

On January 24, the Davidson County Commissioners held their second meeting of 2022. The meeting began with some residents airing their frustrations about the Davidson County Schools Board of Education to the commissioners. No action was taken.

Corporal K. Scott Culler was recognized and celebrated by the commissioners and his coworkers. He is retiring after 30 years with the sheriff’s department. All expressed thanks for his service and extended commitment to his work.

The majority of the meeting was spent on a rezoning request from Davidson Crave, LLC in Conrad Hill Township. They requested an amendment for this area to be zoned a high industrial district. Rezoning would allow the option for  a variety of businesses.

Davidson Crave is looking to build a more than 270,000 ft warehouse with trailer parking. This would be ideal for a light manufacturer or distributor. They emphasized they would be able to stay under the sewage limit set. This building type has had success in other counties and Davidson Crave believes it could be completed by 2023.

Many who live in the area of this rezoning shared complaints, as they do not want additional traffic and a new building in their vicinity. They also raised concerns about a pond being removed because of this building.

The commissioners expressed confliction due to opposing viewpoints. They empathized with residents but also noted a desire to increase jobs in the county. In conclusion, the rezoning request was approved and the meeting was adjourned.
