DDAC adds Owens & Minor, Cascade Die Casting to its membership

LEXINGTON, N.C. - The Davidson-Davie Apprenticeship Consortium (DDAC) has added two companies, Owens & Minor and Cascade Die Casting, increasing its membership to eight companies.

DDAC has enrolled 50 apprentices since its founding in 2019. Its first graduating class was this past spring with six apprentices earning their journeyman certificates.

Apprentices in the DDAC program attend school one day a week at Davidson-Davie Community College (DDCC) and receive on-the-job training four days each week. The program includes competitive pay, a full benefits package, a debt-free associate degree upon completion and eligibility for a full-time job upon graduation.

Owens & Minor is a Fortune 500 global healthcare solutions company integrating product manufacturing and deliver, home health supply, and perioperative services to support care through the hospital and into the home.

Cascade Die Casting Group is a privately held aluminum and zinc die casting company servicing customers across numerous markets. It’s largest division, a casting facility and precision components machining facility, is located in High Point.

“The addition of Owens & Minor and Cascade to DDAC’s lineup of companies is a vital step in the growth of the consortium and apprenticeships in the region,” said Michael Holmes, corporate training manager for EGGER Wood Products and DDAC board member. “The more diverse companies we have, the more we have to offer perspective apprentices and the more we can help grow the job force.”

Cascade Die Casting Group, which employs approximately 230 team members at its High Point, North Carolina, facility, has a need for two to three new team members per year, which the company believes it can consistently fill through DDAC’s program.

“We are excited to join the DDAC and develop our apprenticeship program with their support, knowledge and experience gained over the last several years,” said Jim Moran, president and COO of Cascade. “Between the DDAC and the great support from DDCC and their students, we look forward to success with this program moving forward.”

Owens & Minor believes its involvement with DDAC will is a positive move for all involved.

“Joining the Davidson and Davie Apprenticeship Consortium will help Owens & Minor tap into a group of individuals looking to invest into their futures,” said Cedric Hall, training coordinator for Owens & Minor. “It’s an awesome opportunity for all involved. The apprentices receive a debt-free education and on the job training leading to a career with us and Owens & Minor continues to build a solid workforce.
