Davidson County Board of Commissioners appoints new county attorney

Davidson County Board of Commissioners appoints new county attorney

On May 6th, North Carolina native Adam Jones will begin serving as county attorney with the goal of embracing change.

Jones brings an abundance of experience and education to the role. Charles “Chuck” Frye, the former county attorney, retired January 31st after devoting 15 years of service to the Board of Commissioners.

Jones is eager to return to a smaller community after working for the City of Charlotte. The Harvard Law School graduate identifies with Davidson County’s size based on his humble upbringing; “I have been working for the City of Charlotte for over twelve years, but when I saw the opening in Davidson County I thought it would be a great opportunity to get back to a medium size community like the ones where I spent my youth.” This role will also give him the opportunity to navigate improvements on a smaller scale, which will be easier to manage; “When you are working in a larger municipal government like Charlotte, it is sometimes hard to see the positive impact on the community because of the massive scale of the operation.”

Jones grew up in Randolph County and graduated from Asheboro High school. His mother still resides in the city that he calls home. Jones describes a former traveling experience. “After college, I spent over a decade living out of state in places like suburban New Jersey, Boston, and Washington, DC.” During his time traveling and visiting new places, he decided to go back home with a desire for living within a small community; “My wife and I moved back to North Carolina almost fifteen years ago because we really love North Carolina.”

Jones shares some of his early goals as district attorney; “I will be looking for opportunities to become involved in the Davidson County community, including through civic organizations.  I also plan to be proactive by reviewing current policies and procedures to help ensure that we are minimizing legal risk to the maximum extent possible.” He is also grateful for the fact that he was elected by the board to handle a big responsibility; “I want to express my gratitude for the Board of County Commissioners for entrusting me with this job.  As County Attorney, I am hired directly by the Board.  My responsibility is to protect the interests of the County government, primarily by providing legal counsel to the Board as well as County government employees.”

Jones finishes his statement by adding; “I am looking forward to this opportunity, and I hope it will be a long and beneficial relationship with Davidson County.”
