Davidson County Board of Education Agenda for Feb. 5 meeting

The newly appointed Superintendent of Davidson County Schools, Dr. Gregg Slate, will be sworn in Feb. 5.

The Davidson County Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Monday, Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Davis-Townsend Elementary School on Heath Church Road.

Scheduled recognitions at the start of the meeting include the district Spelling Bee champion and employees with 20 consecutive years of service.

Following the approval of the consent items which do not require individual discussion, the new superintendent Dr. Gregg Slate will be sworn in. Slate, whose tenure officially began Feb. 1, was most recently the Chief Administrative Officer for Rowan-Salisbury Schools (RSS).

The agenda then calls for the superintendent’s update, which includes the superintendent’s transition plan, administrative appointments, and dates to remember: February is Love the Bus month; Feb. 5-9 is National School Counseling Week; Feb. 13 is mid-year graduation at Oak Grove high school, 6 p.m.; Feb. 16 is the custodian/bus driver recruitment fair, 10-11:30, DCS bus garage; and Feb. 19 is annual vacation leave.

There is an opportunity for residents to address the board, followed by information on the curriculum, including an agreement for Applied Behavior Analysis Services and updates on the Career and Technical Education Programs.

Human Resources will present several calendar revisions and proposals, and the finance department will present a budget overview and fiscal year 2025 budget calendar.

Following those and other departmental information sessions, the board is expected to enter into a closed session before reconvening for adjournment.

The next board meeting is scheduled for March 04, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. at Davis-Townsend Elementary School.
