Davidson County Transportation System receives Safety Award
At the 2024 North Carolina Public Transportation Association Annual Conference and Roadeo, Davidson County Transportation System (DCTS) received a Safety Award for Rural Transportation Systems. DCTS received the award for having no reportable accidents in the past fiscal operating year. In 2023, DCTS operated buses in Lexington and Thomasville driving 234,027 miles carrying 128,019 passengers without a reportable accident.
Transportation Director, Richard Jones stated “Safety is a top priority in public transportation. We train continually on safe driving and our Safety & Compliance Tech, David Allen, is a certified Smith System Driving Safety Instructor. Our bus operators are professional drivers and well prepared.”
“The Association is proud of DCTS for its commitment to safety and serving its communities well.” said David Rhew, Executive Director for the North Carolina Public Transportation Association.
In other news, Davidson County Transportation System Bus Operator, Bill Noonan took fourth place in the annual Bus and LTV Roadeo competition held at the zMAX Dragway in Concord, NC on Saturday, April 6, 2024.
Driving a Ford Transit Van, Mr. Noonan placed fourth out of 40 bus operators. The Roadeo course consisted of eleven obstacle stations that required the driver to complete all 11 obstacles in under 7 minutes. Obstacles included driving through a series of sharp turns, narrowing roadways, backing into tight spaces without hitting traffic cones. This was Mr. Noonan’s first time participating in the Roadeo.
Transportation Director, Richard Jones stated “We are very proud of Bill’s accomplishment in placing fourth in his first time participating. In fact, this is the first year that a Davidson County Transportation Bus Operator has participated in the annual Roadeo.
“We were delighted to have the Davidson County Transportation System join the bus roadeo competition this year said NCPTA Execuitve Director David Rhew. We are proud of Bill Noonan efforts on the course and the great work Davidson County Transportation does every day to serve their communities.”
