Davidson Davie Community College to host "Shark Tank" business style event for youth
The popular NBC game show known as “Shark Tank” will inspire young entrepreneurs in Davidson County on Tuesday, April 16th at the Young Entrepreneurs Summit (YES) at 17 East Main Street in Thomasville.
The first YES will focus on young entrepreneurs (19 and under). “At this summit, young, aspiring business leaders will have the invaluable opportunity to engage with and be mentored by established business owners.,” according to organizers. “The entrepreneurs will also present their innovative ideas in a 'Shark Tank' type format where their ideas will be evaluated by the established business owners.”
Similar to Shark Tank organizers say this is a chance to secure deals and make dreams come true. The event will include a pitch session, cash prizes, swag and professional headshots.
Business casual attire is requested.
Each participant will have 3 minutes to pitch established business owners from the community. The pitch will be scored based on subcategories including enthusiasm and ideas. The top three pitches will receive a cash prize.
“We really want to pour into our young people,” said Small Business Center Director Dee Stokes. In a promotional video, Stokes offered encouragement to future business leaders. “Meet as many people as you can. Grab as many business cards as you can. You never know who you’re going to meet.”
Presenters will include Corey Barbour of Barbour Companies, Kwamine Gilyard of EnVisionIt, MaryAnn Molloy of Real World Ballroom and Wayne Robinson of Triad FCA.
