Davidson County’s first “Creek Week” is off to a whirling start, according to organizers with Keep Davidson County Beautiful, Davidson County Commissioners, Yadkin River Keeper and Tourism Recreation Investment Partnership (T.R.I.P.).
With helping hands from across the river, Sunday's joint kickoff event with Rowan County included educational activities, live music, entertainment and an event paddle.
This week will consist of creek clean-ups and river-related activities recognized by a proclamation from the county commissioners and signed by chair Karen Watford.
The declaration includes:
WHEREAS, the Board Commissioners of Davidson County, as a representative, public entity, acknowledges the importance of water quality and water supply as an essential resource for achieving and maintaining community health, economic stability, and long-term community prosperity; and,
WHEREAS, access to clean waterways, creeks, streams, rivers and lakes for recreational, scenic, agricultural and economic development purposes is a fundamental component of community life; and,
WHEREAS, Davidson County aspires to the continued health and economic welfare of its citizens who value clean water for domestic consumption, agricultural use and as an industrial resource; and,
WHEREAS, Davidson County acknowledges the importance of good stewardship and proper management of water resources through thoughtful land development, deliberate and on-going efforts to reduce sources of pollution, and responsible consumption…
Watford said that that Yadkin River Park and others are an important part of Davidson County’s amenities. “We are all involved with enhancing our amenities for our citizens through TRIP. This event is educational, recreational, and show our respect for the natural world and surround waterways. We want to promote respect and enjoyment of our own Davidson County resources…”
The week began with an announcement that the 50th Anniversary Timberlake Gallery celebration will be postponed due to rising COVID cases in the county. Organizers say the special event will be rescheduled.
Other outdoor activities are still underway.
