Daylight saving time 2022 - Davidson County springs forward this weekend

It’s that time of the year again, for daylight saving time to kick in!

Daylight saving time 2022 officially begins Sunday, March 13 at 2 a.m. This means moving the clock ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday night. The change pushes more daylight hours into the afternoon. In Davidson County, sunrise on Sunday happen around 7:32 a.m., with sunset taking place around 7:27 pm, approximately an hour later than the previous day.

We will remain on daylight saving time until we “fall back” an hour on Sunday, Nov. 6.

This twice-yearly ritual of changing the clocks happens almost everywhere in the US although it’s not universal. Most of Arizona and Hawaii do not observe daylight saving time nor do Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Benjamin Franklin, a founding father, who helped draft the Declaration of Independence and was one of the signers is credited with coming up with the idea of daylight saving time. He did not invent the idea, he just suggested that people change their sleeping habits and save money on candles, and oil lights. In 1918, the U.S. enacted its first daylight saving law as a way to conserve fuel.
