DCS to operate on five days per week schedule

At a special called Davidson County Board of Education meeting on Monday, July 19, Superintendent Dr. Emily Lipe announced that all schools will operate on a five days per week instructional calendar for the 2021-22 school year. School opening begins with Early College and Yadkin Valley Career Academy on August 5, 2021  followed by traditional schools on August 16, 2021.

Additionally, Lipe thanked principals and site coordinators for a job well done as 26 sites will finish five weeks of summer programming on Thursday, July 22. She explained transition opportunities that will take place (Aug. 2-6, 2021) for students and how excited they are to welcome families back into our buildings. 

Board members recommended that Lipe and the cabinet formulate a plan to open the upcoming school year with masks being optional. This will be voted upon at the next board meeting scheduled for August 2.

New administrative appointments were also announced:

  • Hayley Stevens was approved as assistant principal for Ledford Middle School. 

  • Jeff Everhart was approved as assistant principal for North Davidson High School. 

  • Amanda Parsons was approved as assistant principal for Midway Elementary. 

  • Morgan Lindley was approved as assistant principal for Tyro Middle School. 

  • Tenae’ Howard was approved as assistant Principal for East Davidson High School.
