• What is the mission of TCS?
  It is our mission in Thomasville City Schools to partner with parents, community and staff members to nurture and prepare students for success in the 21st Century. Educating the whole child and providing them with the tools needed for success in life is paramount. Expectations for a positive learning environment along with rigor, relevance, and relationship building will ensure success for all students.
  

  2. Please share TCS' needs regarding substitute teachers. Do you need daily, short term or long term?
  With a statewide teacher shortage there is a need for short term, long term and daily substitutes. The value of substitutes in TCS is monumental to our everyday operation and safety for students.

  3. What are the qualifications needed to be a substitute?
  Substitutes must have at least a high school diploma. Forty-eight (48) semester hours of post high school work is preferred; however, it is not required. All substitutes will undergo a background check and pre-employment drug screening.

  
  4. Describe an ideal candidates for substitute teaching.
  Thomasville City Schools substitute teachers are an important part of our educating children. When teachers are out of the classroom due to professional development or illness, our students deserve the continuity of instruction. Our substitutes carry on that instruction as the teacher would. The ideal substitute candidates are individuals willing to step in and help students continue to learn and feel safe when the teacher is not able to be at school.
  
  5. How much do substitutes get paid?
  Non Certified (does not hold an NC teaching license) $80.00 per day, Certified $103.00 per day
  
  6. How often can substitutes work?
  Substitute positions are available almost daily when students are in the building. A substitute can work up to 30 hours per week.
  
  7. How are substitutes contacted when needed?
  Thomasville City Schools uses a calling system that allows teachers to request a substitute anytime of day but the calling system will send out mass phone calls from 6:00am - 9:00pm contacting all available substitutes.
  

  8. What is the application process to become a substitute?
  If you are interested in the opportunity for subbing, please complete a Teacher Match application located on the Thomasville City Schools job vacancy page. You will be required to participate in a VIRTUAL training offered by the App-Garden University. This training is for first time substitute teachers in Thomasville City Schools. If you have a current teaching license you will not be required to complete the course.

  10. What are the responsibilities of a substitute?
  In the absence of the regular classroom teacher, substitute teachers help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms.

  We need substitutes in all grade levels, Prekindergarten-12th grade
