Faith and Fellowship: Jesus is the Rock

Faith and Fellowship: Jesus is the Rock

Throughout history, there has been debates on exactly what Jesus meant when he said,” On This Rock I will build my church” - Matthew 16:28. There are many different metaphors used to prefer to the “Rock” Jesus mentioned.

The “Rock” is the confession of Peter that is Christ. Christ the son of the living God is the foundation of the church, Acts 4:10-11 and 1 Corinthians 3:10-15. The Rock is Peter whose confession on behalf of the other disciples encouraged the truth that Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus is the Rock, his work is perfect; For all his ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice, Righteous and upright is he - Deuteronomy 32:4.

The song writer penned it so eloquently with the words, “Where do I go when there’s nobody else to turn to? Who do I talk to when nobody wants to listen? Who do I lean on when there’s no foundation stable?” The song writer declares; I go to the Rock, I know he’s able. I go to the Rock, when all the earth all around me is sinking sand on Christ the solid rock I stand, when I need a shelter when I need a friend, I go to the Rock.

Thank you Jesus for being our Solid Rock. We can always go to the Rock anytime of the day or night. Our Rock is our solid place. Psalm 18:2 declares “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation.

Our rock is a pilar. He was a Rock in the Old Testament and he continues to be our Rock in the New Testament and forever more. Our rock is unmoved by circumstances. We can lean on the Rock in our time of need.

For we, the Believers, know Jesus is the Rock of our Salvation we can drink from the Spiritual Rock that accompanies us. Psalm 18:46 says The Lord lives, and blessed be my Rock and exalted be the God of my Salvation.

There may be times when we would like to be just a little closer with the Rock, that’s a good time to reflect on the hymnal, “Rock of Ages cleft for me Let me hide myself in thee.”

As we reflect on the rock this week, may we remember there is no Rock like the Lord. We, the believers, will not have any other rocks crying out for us. We will praise the Rock of our salvation. The Lord lives! Praise be to our Rock! May the Rock of our salvation be exalted! The Lord is my Rock and my Redeemer!

May God so richly bless!
