Faith and Fellowship: Sacrifice is what saved us
As we enter upon the Easter season let us take time by acknowledging the Lent season. One may ask what is the meaning and purpose of Lent. It is meant to be a time of repentance. These 40 days are set aside to praise and worship the Lord, to read the Bible more and to pray more. Believers who observe Lent correctly anticipate deeper intimacy with the Lord.
Between Ash Wednesday and Easter, many Christians observers a 40 day period known as
Lent. This is a good time to give up one’s own resolutions and listen for God’s leading. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says “Only the grace of God is sufficient”. We, the believers, realize we cannot do anything in our own strength.
What will you sacrifice for 40 days for our Savior? Lent is the perfect time to contemplate what our Lord did for us on the cross. Someone asked the question, “ Is Lent a matter of obedience or tradition to God?”
Matthew 4: 1-11 states “At that time Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. He fasted for forty days and forty nights and afterwards was hungry.” The 40 day period is called Lent after an old English word meaning “ lengthen.” This is the time of year when the days starts to get longer.
We, the believers, will always remember the events leading up to the cross including the death of Jesus Christ whose life and teachings are the foundation of Christianity. The believers are preparing to celebrate Jesus resurrection at the feast of Easter, which comes at the end of Lent. The Lenten season ends with Holy Week, which leads to Easter Sunday; one of the most important days in the life of the believers.
Sometimes we may think to ourselves, I don’t know why he loves me. I don’t know why he cares. I don’t know why he sacrificed his life but I’m glad so glad he did.
What will you sacrifice for the Savior? Will it be chocolate, your favorite foods, phone, television, social media, etc.? Your prayer and fasting will bring you much closer to God during this Lent season.
Sacrifice is what saved us. What shall we render to Him for all his benefits towards us?
We are alive because of the ultimate sacrifice. Gracious Father in our season of reflection and waiting we will trust you.
May God so richly bless!
