Faith and Fellowship: The Road to the Cross

Faith and Fellowship: The Road to the Cross

Easter a very important day in the life of a Christian. Before we can get to Easter Sunday there is a road that we have to travel. This road takes us through the week we recognize as being Holy Week or some may recognize this week as Passion Week. We call this week Passion week because of the passion which Jesus offered himself to die on the cross to atone for the sins of humanity.

The road to the cross was full of rejection and pain. Even before the birth of Jesus; he was already on the way to the cross. Revelation 13:8 tells us “ the Lamb of God was slain from the foundation of the world”. This scripture teaches us that Jesus is moving closer to the cross. There are over 300 prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament, and many of the prophecies predict the details of Jesus’ death.

On the road to the cross there were many obstacles Jesus had to endure including betrayal by a friend. Psalm 41:9, Mark 14: 10 said “Jesus was sold for thirty pieces of silver, Jesus stayed silent when he was accused. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, as a sheep before his shearers, silent he remained and did not open his mouth, slapped and spit upon.” Isaiah 50:6 states the Roman soldiers took a whip and tore open the back of Jesus, hands and feet pierced. All of these things happened on the way to the cross.

SUNDAY, the triumph entry into Jerusalem, Our Savior rode in on a donkey, the crowd cheered for Jesus saying Hosanna, Hosanna! waving palms and branches celebrating Jesus.
MONDAY, Jesus cleansed the temple, overturned the tables of the greedy money changers.
TUESDAY, The Mount of Olives, Jesus went with his disciples, there Jesus could overlook Jerusalem. There Jesus had the Mount Discourse.
WEDNESDAY, Many days earlier, Mary washed the feet of Jesus to prepare him for his burial.
THURSDAY, The last supper, Jesus uses this time with his disciples. preparing them for the cross.
FRIDAY, Jesus carried his own cross to Calvary, where he was nailed to the cross at the third hour (9:00 am) Jesus breathed his last breath at 3:00 pm Friday evening
SATURDAY, Jesus rested in a borrowed tomb.

The road to the cross shows the infinite love of God to fallen humanity.

May God so richly bless!
