Finch House celebrates 100th anniversary

THOMASVILLE: On behalf of the City Council, Mayor Raleigh York, Jr. extends congratulations to owners Andrew and Hilary Clement on the 100th anniversary of the historic Finch House. To celebrate this milestone, the Clements are hosting an Open House on Saturday, May 22, from 1 – 3 PM for the community to come celebrate a century of architectural and furniture industry history. Located at 17 E. Main St., in historic downtown Thomasville, the home place of T. Austin Finch has recently been completely restored and listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The Italian Renaissance Revival Mansion was built by the furniture industrialist for his new wife in 1921 and has stood as a symbol of the manufacturing legacy of the Finch family and the City of Thomasville for the past 100 years.

Local historian Austin Hill shared, “This is truly a unique and special home…. there is none like it in Davidson County.”  David Yemm, chairman of the Thomasville Preservation Commission adds, "The Finch House complements our National Register Downtown Historic District and is a reminder of our city's manufacturing roots.  The Thomasville Historic Preservation Commission applauds Andrew and Hilary Clement on their work to preserve such an iconic home in our town."

The property was recently purchased in October of 2017 by Andrew and Hilary Clement, who took on the task of bringing it back to its former glory. The mansion sits on 1.5 acres and is 7,000 square feet with 6 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms, along with a 1,300 square-foot Carriage House.  Andrew Clement stated, “The property sat empty for 3 or 4 years before we purchased it. We restored every single surface inside and out of the home. The landscaping has received a major facelift as well.” What was once a prestigious private residence is now a wedding and event venue that is enjoyed by the public.
