LEXINGTON – The demolition and reconstruction project of the First  National Bank buildings (formerly Lexington State Bank Plaza) on West Center  Street and South State Street began last week. The demolition portion of the  project will be done in several phases over the next few weeks. The first significant  phase will take place over the next few days.

As part of the first phase of demolition, South State Street will be closed between  West Center Street and First Avenue on Wednesday, July 28, and Thursday, July  29. There will be additional street closures as demolition phases continue. Due to  the ever-shifting nature of construction schedules, exact dates and closures are not available at this time. The City will update the public about street closures through  social media platforms and street signage as information becomes available.

Lexington State Bank (LSB), now First National Bank, moved its operations to  First Avenue in the 1950s. The bank decided to demolish the existing building and  reconstruct a more attractive branch that better fits the modern needs of customers  and staff.
