Former LPD officer arrested, faces allegations of "suspicious involvement" with inmate

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Chief Robby Rummage

Statement from Chief Rummage regarding arrest of Felicia Biddix, a now former,

Lexington Police Officer.

On August 18, 2022, Felicia Biddix was arrested on a warrant for arrest for Felony Obstruction of Justice for actions she was involved in as a Lexington Police Officer. This arrest was made by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office in consultation with the District Attorney’s Office.

Felicia Biddix was released under a $5,000 unsecured bond. Command staff with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office contacted command staff with the Lexington Police Department regarding suspicious interactions between Police Officer Felicia Biddix and an inmate at the Davidson County Detention Center. The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office continued their criminal investigation into the matter while Lexington Police began an administrative investigation.

Chief of Police Robby Rummage, Sheriff Richie Simmons and their respective staffs coordinated efforts to thoroughly investigate this matter from both the criminal and administrative aspects. Felica Biddix was placed on paid suspension on August 16, 2022, as the investigations continued.

On August 17, 2022, prior to her arrest, Felicia Biddix voluntarily resigned during the administrative investigation into her actions committed on duty and/or in her official capacity. Although she has resigned from her position, the administrative investigation continues.

Statement from Robby Rummage, Chief of Police:

MEDIA RELEASE

“The fact that an investigation into one of our officers reveals evidence of a criminal act and a substantial breach of the Lexington Police Department Core Values is extremely disappointing.

At this point, it is the responsibility of the courts to determine if that level of evidence is sufficient to prove guilt. Felicia Biddix is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

We will continue the administrative investigation to properly report these circumstances to the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education Training and Standards Commission (the governing entity that certifies municipal police officers).

The Lexington Police Department remains committed to excellence in professional policing.

We will stand firm in this commitment including the way we respond to these avoidable circumstances.

I would like to thank Sheriff Richie Simmons and his staff for promptly alerting and coordinating with us during this investigation. We share the desire to uphold the highest level of law enforcement professionalism.”
