From Sen. Jarvis' Desk: October 28, 2021
Dear Friends,
This week the budget negotiations have continued, Senator Pro-Tem Berger, Speaker Moore and Governor Cooper have continued their discussions and met last Friday. It is my hope that a deal will soon be reached.
In addition to budget talks, the redistricting process is taking place. These redistricting committee sessions are available online to be streamed through the NC Legislature website (ncleg.gov)
We were thankful to be joined by Lt. Governor Mark Robinson both in Senate District 29 as well as Raleigh this last week. Mark Robinson addressed both Heath Church in Davidson County and then the Return America Rally in Raleigh.
The NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources named St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Lexington. St. Stephen UMC is the oldest Black congregation in the Lexington District of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Per the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, hunting and fishing licenses to North Carolina residents between the age of 50-69 are now under a new reduced price. Each lifetime license now costs $265 (and $358 if you want to fish along the coast). Those prices are half of what they used to be.
In addition, State health officials are no longer recommending that all North Carolina school districts require students and employees to wear face masks in schools. Updated guidance released this week from the state Department of Health and Human Services now recommends that schools only require face masks in counties with high or substantial COVID-19 transmission rates.
As always, thank you to our numerous constituents who continue to write, call, or email our office. I will never stop fighting for you.
Senator Steve Jarvis
NC District 29
