From Sen. Jarvis' Senate Desk: August 27, 2021

Dear Friends,

It has been a busy week in the NC Senate. Senate Bill S693, which I have worked on since coming to Raleigh, passed the House and Senate and is sent to be signed by Governor Roy Cooper.

This bill revises the laws surrounding child welfare reform and will help improve the outcomes for children in foster homes. Thank you to my colleagues in the House and Senate for making this bill possible.

This week the North Carolina Senate passed H324 which would help prevent further indoctrination in schools across our state. I applaud Senator Berger for his great effort in combating this growing issue and I am happy to have voted for this bill.

The Senate also passed H805 to help prevent rioting and disorder in our state. This bill will help increase penalties for rioters and those who purp0sely damage property when protesting. The right to protest and freedom of speech must be protected in this country, but never with violence or the the intent to harm others

The Senate also passed H608 which will help insure that pregnant incarcerated women receive proper care and nutrition. This bill also revises the rules surrounding postpartum bonding. Thank you to my colleagues in the House and Senator Amy Galey for making this bill possible.

We also passed Senate Bill 300 which implements sweeping criminal justice reform for our state which will help combat over-criminalization and support new mental health strategies.

As always think you to our numerous constituents who continue to write, call, or email our office. I will never stop fighting for you.

Senator Steve Jarvis,
NC District 29
