From Sen. Jarvis' Senate Desk: September 3, 2021
Dear Friends,
We've had a very busy week at the Legislature and so this newsletter is going to be longer than normal.
This week we crossed the finish line with SB 693, as Governor Cooper signed it into law. I would like to continue to thank everyone who made this bill possible. These children should receive the most help that they can get, and I believe that this bill is the first step in achieving that goal.
Governor Cooper signed another one of my bills, Senate Bill 316, a General Contractor Reform Bill that will allow for an easier subcontracting process for electricians and plumbers working on smaller projects.
This week, Governor Cooper vetoed the Pistol Purchase Permit Bill, which was written to limit the effects of the previous Jim Crow Era legislation that continue to limit black people from purchasing pistols.
Also this week, HB 324: Ensuring Dignity/ Non-Discrimination in schools is going to be sent to the governor to decide whether or not he will sign it into law or veto it.
In the district this week, I got to meet with the Mayors and City Managers of Montgomery County, as well as attend a The Department of Labor Safety Awards Banquet for Davidson County. It is always a pleasure to continue to work with the local government counterparts of the work we do in Raleigh.
As always thank you to our numerous constituents who continue to write, call, or email our office. I will never forget that I work for the citizens of NC and will continue to do my best to serve you.
Senator Steve Jarvis,
NC District 29
