Thomasville hires high school principal

On the evening of July 20, 2021, at a specially called meeting of the Thomasville City Board of Education, the Board of Education unanimously approved the recommendation to hire Ms. Megan Silvey to serve as the Principal of Thomasville High School. Ms. Silvey currently serves as an assistant principal at Thomasville High School and will officially begin her new role as principal on August 1, 2021. Dr. Cate Gentry, Superintendent of Schools, and the Board of Education are pleased to promote Ms. Silvey to the principalship at Thomasville High School and look forward to working with her to increase opportunities for all students. Dr. Gentry and the Board firmly believes that Ms. Silvey possesses the experience, qualifications, leadership skills and district knowledge to guide Thomasville High School and to further advance strong initiatives currently in place at the school.
Ms. Silvey is a veteran educator with over 25 years of experience including English and history teacher, curriculum facilitator, and school administrator. She proudly served as Principal in Wilmington, N.C. at DC Virgo Middle School from 2003-2009.
Ms. Silvey hopes to employ her past experiences with personalized student attention to increase student achievement and raise the school’s overall proficiency while maintaining a positive, strong school culture. Ms. Silvey is committed to improve parental involvement and community partnerships throughout Thomasville.
Prior to working for Thomasville City Schools, Ms. Silvey served in New Hanover County Schools, Transylvania County Schools, and Guilford County Schools.
Ms. Silvey earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Appalachian State University and earned a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from UNC Wilmington. Ms. Silvey is a North Carolina native from Morganton, North Carolina and currently resides in Thomasville, N.C.
