GIVE WORK A CHANCE: Can you help companies deal with Technutia?
Companies used to need workers to help with minutia (little details that get in the way of getting things done). Minutia is still a challenge. However, incorporating automation, computerization, sensors, programmable logic controllers, sophisticated interdependent processes, and modern email file sharing systems, companies need workers that can help with Technutia (little technical details that get in the way of performance).
For example, one day I received, via email, a Google Drive link with a large audio file from a radio station for my Workforce Development podcast. It was to be used to share with potential VIP guests on the show. It was quite disheartening when I learned hours later that a little technical step was required to forward that email so others could hear the audio. Neither the sender nor myself knew we needed to comply with this technical step. Thus, an email that needed to be sent instantly took hours wasn’t received by recipients for hours. The issue was resolved when one of the VIPs shared how to resolve this irritating technical detail. Technutia is so frustrating!
Technology provides powerful tools. It’s also very humbling and overwhelming to us all. That’s why companies are willing to pay big dollars to workers who can help with both minutia and Technutia to deliver business performance.
What are you doing to increase your Technutia skills? Perhaps we all need to attend more classes at Davidson-Davie Community College (DDCC) to be able to support the growth underway at area businesses. DDCC offers numerous free classes to help the area deal with the challenges of automation and offers numerous scholarships for advanced manufacturing classes.
We all need to cultivate more friendships that can help us when we deal with technical challenges which inhibit us and our families from advancing forward. That’s why people love to join makerspaces As Davidson County continues to grow, having a makerspace will help the community grow our collective capacity to cope with Technuita. Online forums are available but knowing teams of tech talent that can provide technical guidance is quite powerful.
Anyone interested in setting up a Davidson County area makerspace, let me know, I would love to help you. Contact me at joelskilltv@gmail.com Makerspaces are truly economic engines and can help us enable more in the community to enjoy the economic growth underway.
I hope more Davidson Locals grow their abilities to deal with Technutia and not let any detail, minor or technical, get in the way of future success. Grow Davidson grow so we can give work a chance!
