Members of the group, Unity for Change, gathered in front of the old Davidson County Courthouse, in Uptown Lexington, on Monday evening to host a candlelight vigil for the late Elder Gloria Cross. The former NAACP President and community activist passed on Sunday, April 18.

Last summer, Cross, 75, was on the frontlines, almost daily, during the nearly four and a half months protest that called for the removal of the Confederate statue that was erected at The Square in Uptown Lexington over 100 years ago.

The group arranged candles that spelled out L.L.G. for Long Live Gloria. There was also a chair and a sign with the letters that served as a reminder of Cross’ commitment to many causes in Davidson County.

UFC will host another vigil on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. They also plan to protest, throughout the week, to bring attention to the recent killing of Ma’Khia Bryant. The 16 year old girl was shot and killed by Officer Nicholas Reardon in Columbus, Ohio on Tuesday, April 20.
