Butterflies provide a rich historical and cultural significance, representing transformation, hope and rebirth. Charles C. Hodges, Chavis Hodges and Yolanda Dukes, owners of Lexington's newest funeral service, selected the butterfly as a gentle and subtle reminder for families seeking comfort during vulnerable times of funeral planning.

Chavis Hodges said that growing up in the funeral business still left him unprepared for his mother's arrangements after her passing in 2010. "It wasn't until the day I had to sit down and do it myself... That's when it changed for me. I finally understood what it feels like to sit in that seat," Chavis recalled as he pointed to a chair in a meeting room for families.

C.C. Hodges & Son Funeral Cremation Services has two locations, one in Asheboro and one opened the doors in September in Davidson County. The company provides burial service and owns a crematorium operating as Cremation by Simplicity.

The owners explained that family and proximity brought them to their facility on 1820 S Main St in the former space of Roberts Funeral Service. Chavis said, "The building was already laid out for a funeral home, so it was perfect for us to move in." The two unaffiliated entities and are in direct competition for local business. Chavis assured that competition is good for the industry. "We are just offering variety. Some families will still choose Roberts, some will choose us."

Charles C. along with his staff tout a combined 100 years of experience. Yolanda Dukes said they are proud of the reputation and commitment to service they are bringing to Davidson County. "We always say, if it is important to you, it is important to us! We provide a total professional funeral package, notary service, preneed, insurance and in-house crematory."

From the outdoor name plate to colorful memorial urns, butterfly images flutter throughout Hodges’ funeral home. Chavis said, "Some funeral homes choose a dove or flowers for their logo. We picked the butterfly because we are different from the rest."
