Hospice Davidson County celebrates a successful 17th Annual Ride For Angels
Hospice of Davidson County (HODC) hosted its 17th Annual Ride for Angels motorcycle fundraising event at Denton FarmPark on Saturday, July 20th . The event brought together 157 riders and passengers that took to the roads of Davidson County for a 70-mile route led by Lt. Frankie Young and the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

Riders braved the chance of potential stormy weather to participate in the fundraiser that helps ensure no one is turned away from hospice care. “We have provided unprecedented Charity Care days this year,” explained Christina Davenport, Director of Community Relations. “Our mission ensures that no one in our community is denied hospice services, regardless of their ability to pay.” The brief program began at 10:30 a.m. and included remarks on rider safety, sponsorship acknowledgements, the singing of the national anthem, and the pledge of allegiance.
Kickstands lifted at 11:00 a.m. and riders enjoyed sunny skies as they passed by the HODC campus where volunteers greeted them with signs of appreciation. Upon return to Denton Farmpark, the event included a 50/50 cash raffle, prize raffles of over 18 items, photo opportunities with angel wings, and boxed lunches for all riders and passengers. Riders lingered once the event was over to share their hospice stories with one another. “The Ride for Angels fundraising event is deeply rooted within the community and provides an authentic atmosphere of reconnection. It is an opportunity to honor the legacies of those who have passed, but are not forgotten,” notes Chief Executive Officer, Laura Owen. “It is inspiring to hear bike enthusiasts and attendees share stories of their loved ones who continue to hold significant meaning in their lives.”
Beyond participating in the event by riding, attendees showed their support by purchasing the annual Ride for Angels t-shirt. Each year, individuals have the opportunity to purchase space on the t-shirt to list names of loved ones. A limited number of t-shirts remain for purchase on the HODC campus at $20 per shirt. Interested individuals should call HODC to inquire about sizes.
Through sponsorships and event attendance, the fundraiser grossed over $20,000. Fundraising efforts like the annual motorcycle ride ensure that no one is denied supportive services when needed most. So far in 2024, HODC has provided more than $350,000 in Charitable Care days for community members. HODC’s mission is to ensure the exceptional hospice benefit is accessible to everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Charitable Care days would not be possible without local event sponsors, riders, passengers and community partners.
