Hospice of Davidson County held its 16th annual golf tournament fundraiser on Thursday, April 17th at Sapona Golf, Swim, and Tennis Club. The charity event was a 4-person, Captain’s Choice tournament with a shotgun start for both morning and afternoon tee times. Golfers from 30 teams registered to compete in the tournament. The event raised over $20,000 for patients with serious illness and individuals seeking grief and bereavement counseling.

Teams that competed in the no handicap golf tournament had the opportunity to participate in additional activities including a putting and long drive contest, a closest to pin contest, and support from 2-time winner of the World Long Drive (WLD) Masters Division Championship, Jeff Crittenden. Participants were served breakfast biscuits from the Barbeque Shack in Thomasville, gourmet coffee from Given Coffee Truck, a ministry supported by HopeCity, and lunch from Bridgett’s Kitchen, Lexington.

The tournament concluded with an awards ceremony presenting trophies for the members of the first and second place teams, trophies for the putting contest, the long drive contest, and the closest to pin contest. Winning team members representing Salcoa Contracting, Inc. included Keith Dorsett, Ryan Honeycutt, Chace Jensen, and Ryan Szalay. They proudly carried forward the tradition of donning bright, lime green blazers to celebrate their victory.

The second-place team, Local Real Estate, was comprised of Josh Tackett, Ryker Tackett, Cody Hill, and Rodney Hill. Additional tournament winners included: Leigh Armentrout (putting contest winner), Vonnie Nelson (long drive winner), and Richard Payne, Ryan Szalay, and Keith Dorsett (closest to pin winners).

“We are thrilled to have the support of area businesses and community leaders who share our commitment to caring for those navigating serious illness. The annual event equips our Agency to provide hospice services to individuals living in our community, regardless of their ability to pay. Last year, alone, Hospice of Davidson County provided over $483,000.00 in charity care. Due to long-standing community support through donations and fundraisers such as the annual golf tournament, we are able to fulfill our mission to provide quality, end-of-life care for every individual in need of services,” noted Laura Owen, Chief Executive Officer.
