'Plungers' jump into chilly waters to raise funds for incarcerated men
On the last Saturday of 2022, a few local citizens ‘plunged’ theirselves into the chilly waters at Elevated Wake Park. The Polar Plunge, presented by Davidson Prison Ministry (DPM), raised funds for Chaplaincy services and ministry programs for the 258 men at Davidson Correctional Center in Lexington, NC.
Participants included Lexington’s Eat Drink Triad, Goose and the Monkey Brewhouse LLS, Rev. Dr. Arnetta Beverly, Thomas Gobble, Charlotte Hedrick, Priscilla Hunt Spivey, Emily Wall, Brewer Johnson, Owen Miller, Junior Thomas and John Burke.
After plungers were back on land and seeking warmth via dry clothes, a fire pit, coffee and apple cider, DPM Executive Director had this to say about the event, “Thank you to community for supporting the men at Davidson Correctional. It’s so important. These men are coming home; back to our community. So, let’s invest in them now. Show them we love them, care for them and help them thrive in our community.”
*DPM was formed in the fall of 1985 offering hope and healing to the offenders and staff at Davidson Correctional Center. DPM chaplaincy and ministry services seek to be “salt and light” to a broken and hurting community. DPM is driven by the belief that every human being is created in the image of God and therefore has intrinsic dignity and potential.
