Kamp Kiwanis is in need of staff

After a two year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kamp Kiwanis is poised to return for another summer of fun, learning and laughter. Beginning on Sunday, June 5 and ending on Saturday, June 25, the three-week overnight camp is in need of staffers to ensure the camp’s success.

Started in 1928, Kamp Kiwanis has served thousands of children in Davidson County for 10 decades. Through support of the Kiwanis Club of Lexington, the Davidson County Agricultural Fair, Corporate Sponsors and the support of citizens, this camp remains a shining light of hope to deserving children in the community.

Currently, the camp has openings for a Director (21+), Assistant Director (21+) and up to eight counselors (18+). Interested parties are encouraged to apply if you are disciplined, respectful, posses great leadership skills, able to commit to a teamwork philosophy, willing put kampers and safety first at all times and enjoys having fun. A few of the expectations of staff are as follows:

  • Required to stay at the camp site at all times. Kampers are there 24/7 so staff is there the same amount of time. The Director and/or assistant director will determine when staff is able to be off site.

  • Engage with kampers-participate in activities with them.

  • Maintaining and cleaning the common areas

  • Be present at all times

Kamp Kiwanis is located on a 25 acre tract off of Ridge Road, next to Lake Thom-a-Lex, in northern Davidson County. Current Facilities include air-conditioned cabins for kampers and kounselors, bathhouse, swimming Pool, waste water management system, large dining hall and kitchen, Bible story cabins, hiking trails, ball field, basketball court and playground.

  • Kamp Kiwanis provides a camping experience in a rustic setting for over 180 children in three, one-week sessions each summer.

  • Participating campers are selected by Davidson County Department of Social Services.

  • Kampers learn skills of swimming, STEM, crafts, hygiene and other health matters.

  • Trained high school and college students interact with campers and serve as role models.

  • Members of the Kiwanis Club of Lexington visit weekly to share meals and interact with kampers.

Kounselors are paid $400 per week and will receive their checks on the last day of kamp. All meals and snacks are provided for staff while at kamp. To apply for a staff position, the application can be found on the Kiwanis Club website. For more information about the camp, contact Walter Fulp at (336)249-7531.
