Lexington council special called meeting results in no action being taken

A special called meeting of the Lexington City Council this afternoon resulted in no action being taken, according to Councilor Garrett Holloway. On Monday, August 22 at the council's second meeting of the month, Tyrone Terry shared he heard a rumor that “that the mayor and certain councilors intend to fire our city manager.”

The language of the notice stated, “The purpose of this meeting is for Council to go into closed session concerning a personnel matter as allowed by North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11(a)(6).” Due to the statute, the mayor and members of the council are prohibited from sharing what was discussed in the session unless there was action taken such as a promotion, demotion, transfer, suspension, separation or other change in position classification.
