Lexington launches 30-Day Kindness Challenge

Lexington launches 30-Day Kindness Challenge

On March 1, Dr. Patricia Smyre, diversity, equity and inclusion manager for the city of Lexington, launched the Kindness 30-Day Challenge. Throughout the campaign, residents are encouraged to be kind to those around them, remove gossip from their conversations, and kindly correct others in pursuit of the truth.

In the first week, participants are encouraged to give a card of appreciation to someone who has been influential to them. The second week’s challenge is to buy a drink or bake a treat for someone who you appreciate. On the third week, be kind to the earth by picking up litter or participating in another environmentally friendly action. The fourth week is devoted to being kind to someone who you observe being kind. At the conclusion, Smyre encourages participants to journal how the 30 days went and let others know how it impacted them.

The challenge was initiated and created by Smyre. This campaign, according to Smyre, was developed in hopes of uniting our community in a positive way. “Kindness is how we can build stronger relationships with our community partners and neighbors,” Smyre says, in the hopes that after March Lexington will be even stronger.
