On Thursday, unnamed officials confirmed that Lexington Senior High School principal Eric Puryear Sr. resigned after approximately 1 year. It was reported to Davidson Local that school administrators, parents and the board learned of the transition through an announcement from the Guilford School’s website. Officials have declined to comment on details.
Puryear responded to Davidson Local to say that the rumored resignation is “true” and he was “not sure what the school board knew.” He also confirmed that he has accepted a position with Guilford County Schools. “I decided to do what’s best for my family. Lexington is special but as a former football coach you claim the wins and the losses.” Puryear indicated that he did not see an opportunity for growth within the LCS School System. He thanked the current Superintendent Dr. Anitra Wells. “I would sincerely thank Dr. Wells for the opportunity.” The date of his departure has not been released.
Superintendent Wells was out of the office during the time of this story. Wells announced in February that she would leave her position at the end of the 2022-2023 school year. The Lexington City Board of Education announced the selection and election of Dr. Nakia Hardy as the next superintendent. Dr. Hardy will take office on July 1, 2023.
According to the Guilford County School’s website:
June 13, 2023 – Guilford County Schools (GCS) added a new principal to its roster and removed the “interim” designation from the title of its chief technology officer…Eric Puryear will join the district and will be assigned to a school at a later date…
This is a developing story.
