Lexington schedules celebration of Black History Month
The city is inviting the community to Lexington Senior High School on Saturday, February 17 for a celebration of Black History Month.
The event kicks off with doors opening at 2 p.m. and the program will begin at 2:30 p.m.
On the agenda are:
Keynote Speaker Rev. Alan Suber of Faith-Forward Baptist Church; music from the Files Baptist Church choir; liturgical dance performed by Makia Cade of Union Baptist Church dance ministry; appearance by local artist Kenrick Jobe; artwork from the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. youth art gallery and exhibition by Anything for Our Youth Group, and more.
In addition, Lexington Utilities is celebrating Black History Month by posting information on Black Americans who have made great contributions to history and moments in history itself that have brought racial change on their Facebook page. So far, they have honored Ernest Everett, John Arthur Johnson, Rosa Louise McCauley Parks, Arthur Robert Ashe, Jr., Carter Godwin Woodson, Oprah Gail Winfrey, Ralph Ellison, The Civil Rights Act, and W.E.B. Du Bois.
