Lexington Social District opens today in Uptown
Breweries, bars and restaurants in Uptown Lexington are excited about the opening day of the Lexington Social District.
The Lexington Social District officially opens today at 10:00 a.m. and will mark history in Lexington, as the city joins other cities such as Greensboro and Durham in the excitement.
Those that are 21 and older, can now purchase alcohol in designated cups and enjoy a drink while strolling Uptown, either inside or outside, within the boundaries of the social district. You can even shop in stores that allow alcoholic beverages.
The ordinance was adopted by the Lexington City Council in June 2023. Each participating business applied for and received special permits to join the social district. The Lexington Social District logo is displayed at each of these businesses. The Lexington Social District hours are in effect seven days a week beginning at 10:00 a.m. and ending at 12:00 a.m. The exception to the hours is the day of the Lexington Barbecue Festival.
Although this is a move towards progressive growth in Uptown Lexington, all other existing alcohol laws still apply. Lexington Police Department will monitor and enforce the rules of the Lexington Social District.
There is also a limit to the amount each person can purchase at each location.
