LFD responds to two weekend fires

LEXINGTON, NC – Lexington Fire Department responded to two separate  structure fires on Saturday, May 1.

The first fire was at 116 Hankins Drive. When the initial team arrived, they found a kitchen fire that extended into the attic. Fire crews quickly established a fire attack  to mitigate property loss and searched for any trapped occupants. Firefighters had  to remove part of the kitchen ceiling to gain access to the fire.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to gain control of the fire. Crews then took  measures to prevent additional property damage. The structure sustained heavy fire  damage to the attic and roof area. Water damage was present throughout the  structure.

There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters. The cause of the fire is under  investigation by the Lexington Fire Marshal.

The second fire occurred at a residence located at 1148-C Brown Street. Units  arrived to find smoke issuing from the structure and located a small fire on the  kitchen stove. Crews deployed an attack line to extinguish the fire.
