Lingerie shop opens in Uptown Lexington

A lingerie shop is among several new and unique businesses that have recently opened in Uptown Lexington.
UpperClass Lingerie, 109 S. Main St., opened in February, making it the first lingerie shop in the uptown district.
Denise Lloyd, owner of UpperClass Lingerie, has had an online business, by the same name for nearly three years. She decided to open a storefront at the prompting of a friend and fellow nurse, who lives in Lexington, and told her locals drive 30 or more miles to find a lingerie shop.
Lloyd, a Greensboro resident for 30 years, said she still occasionally works as a PRN. PRN nurses work on call, as needed. Last year, she worked at Moses Cone’s COVID-19 hospital in Greensboro until it closed when cases declined.
“Next to nursing, lingerie is my thing,” Lloyd said, noting she is focusing on her business now.
“I’ve always loved lingerie, since my childhood when I would wear long silk gowns like my mom and grandmother,” she said. “It’s still what I like to wear at home.”
Other styles of lingerie in the shop include robes, baby doll pajamas, lacy outfits, fishnet outfits and corsets. Brands include Coquette and Magic Silk.
“Corsets are back in style since the country and R&B singers started wearing them on stage,” she noted.
Lloyd said some of her clients are dancers and entertainers so she began carrying a line of platform shoes and boots at their request.
She also added a line of men’s silk shorts since she has male clientele who come in to buys gifts for their wives and girlfriends.
But most of her customers are “curvy” women who can find garments that run from extra small up to 6X.
“We do tend to sell more of the larger sizes because they’re harder to find,” Lloyd said, adding she can special order large-size bras as well.
She said her shop is “where sexy doesn’t have any size — or age.”
UpperClass Lingerie’s hours are as follows:
Monday - 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday through Saturday - 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Sunday - 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.
