It’s Campaign Time for United Way.

The United Way of Davidson County kicked off its annual campaign season yesterday at the J. Smith Young YMCA. This organization helps fund local non-profits in this community, which in turn helps families in Davidson County.

The United Way has a goal to raise more than $1 million to reinvest. The event helped unite those in the community such as local/state officials, corporate partners and businesses.

According to their local impact statement:

874 children had a safe place to go for after school care.

21,455 local residents were impacted just in the last year alone through United Way funded programs.

19,835 hot, nutritious meals were delivered to homebound seniors in our community.

The organization currently funds 25 local agencies.

Davidson Local interns are putting a youthful spin on stories in the next few months. Youth Correspondent Riley Elliott attended the campaign and interviewed the staff of United Way. Visit her SCOOP segment and look for more United Way stories as the campaign begins August 1st!
