Local man to be awarded Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award

Lexington - North Carolina Senator Steve Jarvis will be presenting Reverend Lamar  Moore with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award during the April 25 meeting of the  Davidson County Board of Commissioners.

Since 1963, North Carolina's governors have reserved this highest honor for persons who have  given 30 or more years to make significant contributions to the state and their communities  through exemplary service and exceptional accomplishments.

Moore is credited with advocating to the Davidson County Board of Commissioners in the mid 1970s to assume leadership of the non-profit Davidson County Council on Aging and create a  county department of Senior Services. For more than 45 years, Moore has guided the Davidson  County Department of Senior Services from its beginnings to today's comprehensive aging  service provider. His position as a Senior Tarheel Legislative delegate and service on several  local, state, and regional boards, has proved diligence in ensuring programs and services remain  strong so that older adults have the resources to age independently in their own homes and the  community.
