Loda resigns from LCS Board of Education

Dr. Margaret Loda has resigned as the Ward 6 representative for the Lexington City Schools (LCS) Board of Education. Davidson Local was informed last week of her intent.

No formal letter was submitted. According to David Inabinett, attorney for the LCS board, “No formal letter is necessary. Dr. Loda shared she needed to step away to devote more time to her personal and professional life given she had already served out the term she had originally contemplated before the elections got postponed. General Statute 115C-37 governs how a board member vacancy is filled prior to expiration of the term. There is no current school board policy that governs this, only state statute.”

On Tuesday evening, March 1, at their regularly scheduled monthly meeting, the board discussed how to proceed with filing the vacancy. Applications will be accepted and an appointment will be made at the next regularly scheduled meeting in April. Inabinett said, “They would begin upon the current board’s vote to appoint that person and upon the new appointee taking the oath of office.” The appointment’s term would be approximately six weeks as the election for Ward 6’s seat is on May 17.

Davidson Local has reached out to LCS for comment which hasn’t been received at the time of publication.
