LPD Chief presents vision, announces promotions
Lexington Police Department Chief Robby Rummage presented a plan to the Lexington City Council Monday night detailing the “Future of LPD.” Referencing his predecessors, Rummage said he plans to continue the standards set by those who came before to raise the bar.
In doing so, he noted the department currently has what Lieutenant Shannon Sharpe calls a “diamond mine of young talent.” To assist them in growing in their roles as public servants, Rummage stated that it’s important for the department to listen and learn from one another in addition to leading. This includes being “role models of honor and integrity as well as a source of pride for Lexington.”
Before presenting to council, Rummage mentioned he spoke with every member of the police department to share his plans for the future. He also outlined and shared with them the five core values he expects the department to uphold: honor, integrity, professionalism, collaboration and service.
Aligning with those values, Rummage expressed the importance of citizen input.
“I know and understand the community must have a voice. Police leaders cannot discount these ideas. We must balance them.”
As a result, Rummage announced as part of its next level of commitment, the department has created a new position in its leadership structure. Lieutenant Ronnie Best will serve as the Captain of Professional Standards and Community Engagement.
Other promotions include:
Michael Hunt has been promoted to Deputy Police Chief.
Luke Davis has been promoted to Captain - Patrol.
Chris Kirkwood has been promoted to Captain - Investigations.
Best and Kirkwood’s promotions will be effective April 26.
